Grade 5 to 6 Transition
The transition from Elementary to Middle School has been a focus since I arrived at BCIS. We first started by examining the the students' and teachers' perspectives and used feedback to provide structured scaffolding in order to make the experience better for all. Changes included several orientation days during Grade 5, Parent sessions both at the end and beginning of the year, and a elongated orientation plan for Grade 6 to ensure major events were considered throughout the year.
Master Schedule Building
Building the schedule is a project I have led both at GAA and BCIS. Along the way I have had to work with complex government regulations regarding native language and religion coupled with a large assortment of choices and a focus on supporting our ELL students. I have experience building schedules for student growth, changing of structure such as shifting from an 8 day to a 5 day block schedule and working with a variety of space and staffing constraints.
Learning Management System Implementation
I have led LMS research and implementation projects on a few occasions. I use feedback from a variety of users to make decisions about changes in order to ensure not getting appropriate learning features but also to help drive user by-in for the implementation process. Trust and clear information are both very important factors in success in this process and getting staff on board early is vital to both.
Learning Walks
Based on the premise of consistent short classroom visits focusing on staff created instructional goals, this system has developed to offer teachers more targeted feedback while providing those doing the learning walks with an insight into the learning happening around the school. Again, trust and clear communication are both necessary for success.
Grade 12 Advisory and IDEATE Project Mentor
I wanted to become more familiar with our curriculum and systems so I taught an Advisory class and was an IDEATE Project Mentor. This allowed me to make more knowledgable decisions about our programs and to also help build trust with staff.
CIS Evaluation Visits
As a member of CIS Accreditation teams, I have had the opportunity to evaluate other schools around the world leading to outstanding professional learning from other colleagues. This experience has also made me a valuable member of our own accreditation/authorization team as the co-chair of the steering committee.
